darude

what genre would you call darude as far as electronica goes? I would call it trance, but unlike a lot of trance, darude's build-up's actually build up to something as opposed to some artists who's build-ups build up to nothing. Could you kind people's direct me to some good trance/rave/house/whatever that is not repetitive as hell? and any good songs that have complex cut-off and/or ts404. Thanks.

well when house/rave/trance starts to be unrepetitive, it turns into a different subgenre...try some things on the Kompakt label of Germany...good tech/minimal house stuff actually

well, trance uses a lot of synth work, house/rave uses the usual 4/4 quarter note "boom boom boom" scheme, so if you change it up, it can be tech house, possibly drum n'bass, and if you add a faster beat to it, think of the ever so repetitive "Happy Hardcore" type

Hmmm, I find that description of darude hard to believe. Are the rest of the stuff different from his hits? Because his hits are nothing but repetetive. It`s dance/trance music, and I haven`t heard anything like it, so I`ll give him some points for originality.

Ever since Josh Wink recorded Higher State of Consciousness this type of track has popped up from time to time.

It was the Pulp Panel Reconstruction mix of New Order's Confusion used in the club scene of the first Blade movie that really propelled it into popularity.

Now we have tons of tracks that use what I call the "hard 303" sound. Okay, I know Josh Wink used a 202 and I'm sure tons of other synths can make the sound, but to me it's the classic hard edged 303 bassline.

In any case, clinging to the old ways, I lump any track whose synth is based around a 303 sound in the acid category. So I say that Darude, Warp Brothers, Voodoo & Serano, and all the similar artists are just this decades form of acid music.

I'd call it Epic Trance or some crazy Dance subgenre.
