i think 'achy breaky heart' should receive the same treatment as 'don't worry be happy'... it should be banned from public broadcast...

That's odd...nobody over here likes that song!!! In fact it was voted into the top 10 hated songs of all time!!!

I didn't realise he was that Doc guy either...just like his music carreer, that show is really lame.

what Will Oldham (Bonnie prince Billy , Palace), Giant Sand, Lucinda Williams, Uncle Tupelo, Ryan Adams,... do they call Alt.country or Americana. closer to Alternative or rock than to pop I guess. and that's the sort of country I like.
the soundtrack to oh brother where art thou? was good too and that was more something bluegrass like, I think

i like achey breaky heart. it has happy-go-lucky-sing-along-dance-along factor.

i used to dance to it when i was six. it was one of my favourite songs to dance to because i could make up actions to it. i also danced to the billy ray cyrus version of these boots (are made for walkin') and a few of his other songs, my mother thought he was a spunk and had his CD, you see.

mazzy star are country now? cool. i'm broadening my musical tastes and i didn't even know it. mind, i do love what i've heard of will oldham. i fell in love with his voice when he did the vocals to happy child by tweaker and i've downloaded a few songs since then and i've liked them a lot.

i think most of all i like hope and will's voices, though. the music just adds to the laid-back feel of it all.

I think there is good country and bad country

Bad country could be one my least favourite musical styles eg achey breaky heart.
Good country I really like.

As Orpheus termed it 'alt.country' is good, Fred Eaglesmith, Lucinda Williams, slim cessna's auto club, ween did a great country album, so did the supersuckers....etc this type of country is great
so to are old timers Johnny Cash and Hank Williams

That is the original Hank Williams who was good.
His son Hank Williams II was an example of bad country
and his Son Hank Williams III is really good he has collaborated with great bands such as the Melvins.

How can you have 3 generations with the same name ?? weird

I guess it's a name that gets passed on. My mum's family pass down the name John to the eldest son. They've been doing it for proably over 20 generations.

Anyway, country music can be pretty funny and good for a laugh and dance but when you take it seriously or the musicians aren't having fun, that's when I really don't enjoy country music.
