Need name of 1988-90 era kid rapper
Here's a tough one....
Back in the late 80's a hip hop station used to play this kid rapper who I think was called "Luwan Love"?? Spelling? He sampled a lot of james brown..
I know one song starts with lyrics kinda like: "I was sittin in class when I fell asleep, and I was just about to take the SAT.."
Help if you can.. I've tried all kinds of searches using different name spellings & lyrics but cant find anyone who's ever heard of him.
Radio station was in Charolette, NC.
Thanks

Wow, that sounds completely horrible - why would you want to track that down? Just kidding. (Sort of...)
From 1985 to about 1989, I was completely obsessed with rap - it was basically all I listened to - but I've never heard of anyone that matches that description. It's possible that this guy was a local artist in North Carolina.
That aside, I can't believe that North Carolina had a radio station dedicated to hip hop in the late 80's. Other than a few artists ( Tone Loc, e.g.), rap was still pretty underground back then, and definitely not popular enough to dedicate an entire music station to. We didn't have one in D.C. back then at least. Today we have like four. I remember going on a trip to NYC in the late 80's under the assumption that if any city would have a hip hop station, they would. But, to my disappointment, I couldn't find one station that played it - at least not until late at night, and then only for a couple hours.
Anyways, good luck in your search, and if you come away empty-handed remember there's always Another Bad Creation and their 1991 opus, Coolin' at the Playground Ya Know.

horakhti - i realize that that does sound completely horrible, and if I heard it today, I would probably throwup, but you know how it is. I also was completely into rap back in the mid to late 80s. I lived about 1 hour south of charlote, NC but they had a badass station 103.9 that would play some great mixes late at night. I still have some of those mix tapes. I would just record the whole thing. I wish I knew even half of what they played.
But this damn kid i liked (of corse I was only about 15 or so also so I could relate [ ]. I probably never know but it has bugged me for a long time.
Thanks for the reply
And if ABC doesn't do it... Kris Kross will

I should have tried that spelling. I listened to it on itunes last night - that was some really really bad stuff! O well. Now my quest is over. I wish I could delete this thread...
