A Momentary Lapse of Reason > The Division Bell
|
anyone listened to the live album called Pulse??? it was recorded in 1994, and was dave gilmour playin with nick mason and other guys. it's an amazing sound and i'd recommend it to anyone who wants to hear a taster of what the floyd would have sounded like at a live gig.

I am a bit shocked how much attention is given to the later (non Waters) albums in many threads... Am I the only one who thinks that these albums (while good) are not even in the same league as classic Pink Floyd albums like Dark Side, Animals, Meddle and Wish You Were Here... I would think that only a very very very small percentage of serious Pink Floyd fans think the later albums (post Wall or Final Cut perhaps) are in the same league as the earlier Floyd material... Heck, in my book, even albums like More and Obscured by Clouds blow away these later Pink Floyd albums...

I dunno I would about rather listen to Momentary Lapse of Reason over Obscured by Clouds. But you're right, they're not in the same league as DSOTM, WYWH, The Wall, Meddle, etc...

I really like obscured by cloud. Momentary Lapse was good, maybe even great. I agree that the post Waters floyd are missing a certain element and so I agree that the old albums are in another league when compared to the post final cut albums. I think that every one of the older pink floyd albums had its own feel, originality and freshness. The band never seemed to produce an album that merely imitated a previously made album. That is what I think the post Waters albums lack. To me just trying to reproduce the typical floyd sound that brought them all of the success previously. |

I have delicate sound of thunder so when pulse came out I though it would be similar, It is the only floyd album that I don't own. |

The first ummagumma album has many of the songs live on it. I got the Pompeii DVD for christmas :yeah: |
my favourite album is no question, dark side of the moon. i know... how cliche of me.
and my favourite member is either roger or david. |
I agree that the albums with Waters are better, but I am not gonna say that they are "a lot" better. Momentary Lapse of Reason is simply amazing, it is a mixture of some of the best instrumental pieces i've heard Pink Floyd do along with some other great songs such as Learning to Fly and On the Turning Away. The Division Bell is just a good album from start to finish. It is one of those albums where I just don't skip a song because I love each of them. Also, if you read one of my posts in another thread I think On the Turning Away and High Hopes are in my top 5 favorite Floyd songs. Maybe that influenced my opinion on the later albums some. Trust me, I wouldn't give up a Pink Floyd lead by Roger Waters for anything short of Led Zeppelin and even then, it would be too close to call, but I do believe that the albums done by Gilmour aren't appreciated as much as they should be.
