I personally don't like "emo" - it bores me.

But hey, it is a legitimate genre, and there are some very well-respected artists within it. Rites of Spring is considered the first emo band, and this was Guy Picciotto's project before he formed Fugazi with Ian MacKaye. (I don't think I have to mention that Fugazi is perhaps the most well-respected band in the indie rock community today.) So the genre has some legitimacy by that association.

Jawbreaker is another band that the indie rock community gushes over. Their former frontman is now in a band called Jets to Brazil, which is considered an emo band. Again, an association that gives legitimacy to the genre.

So hey, it's OK to like emo. Just don't ask me to suffer through any of it with you.

As far as where this thread belongs, I think punk is a good a place as any. Emo is an offshoot of punk and hardcore. Sure it sounds "wussy" in comparison, but facts are facts.
