well, someone on another site complained that they copied the sound of JD, Magazine, The Sound & The Smiths.
as for contemporary bands, I saw an Interpol gig and British Sea Power did the opening, they're also quite ok. They just have a first album "the decline of British Sea Power" out

'Turn Off The Bright Lights' is the album sign out the past year @least for me!
i just find that flavour i get from interpol from placebo,
the depressing dark guitar whirpools are so cool.
but i must check out "British Sea Power", too, as Orpheus suggested.
"the Music" is quite worth to be tried as well IMHO, in this aspect!!

the accent of icelandic words falls in almost all cases on the first syllable. the exceptions are
1.words that have the negative prefix "ó-" meaning "un-" as in "unwilling" eg óhreinindi
2.words that have the prefix "all-" meaning "rather" or "very" eg allfeginn
in these two cases, the accent falls equally on the first two syllables or mainly on the second syllable.

i used to hate interpol. i had only heard a couple of songs...but i think hating them had to do with all the hype; everyone saying it was the greatest record of the year blah blah blah, which pissed me off. i still don't think it was the best, or in the top ten even, but i've come to find some of their songs okay

I like interpol but not the hype surrounding them i guess everyone kind of feels annoyed when a band is hyped up to a certain degree it just takes away from the music.
Always remember to look past the hype!!!!

In our band could be your life the author said that the british press uses this strategy of hyping up and cracking down already from the mid-eighties, won't they ever stop?

i love interpol. when i first heard them i thought, "hey, it's like joy division meets placebo yayayyaya" and then i couldn't stop listening to them for a while. i don't think interpol sounds like the smiths at all. hell no.
they have more than the songs from turn on the bright lights. there's also the interpol ep and i'm sure there's another, i just can't remember right now.
there has been literally NO hype about them in new zealand, i got into them by asking an american friend and then it was all go from there. i can't even seem to find an album of thiers.
i heard that they sound like the chameleons the most though. i'd agree with that, download the chameleons if you like interpol.
i agree with boRa, the songs are deliciously dark, i like the way the guitar seems so smother out most other sounds.

The music's quite catchy, I like "Say Hello to the Angels" a lot. Hope they're making another CD sooner or later.
