If their so afraid of people downloading music - Why not just simply shut down Kazaa, Limewire and Edonkey? Or at least prevent that software from being developed?

No, Kazaa is not illegal. It's only illegal to download copyrighted songs/videos/programs/whatever. So all Kazaa has to do is say that they made the program for sharing uncopyrighted material.

Programs like kazaa are never going to die, and people are going to continue downloading copyrighted material for a long time. But, there are many paranoid people that watch the news and see that 10 people got caught today by the RIAA or whatever and freak out. They don't realize that the chances of it happening to them are extremley small. But they stop downloading copyrighted material anyways. The only thing that the RIAA is accomplishing right now is slimming down on the downloading population, which will end soon enough. As for me, I do download copyrighted songs, but not too often only because the low quality tends to annoy me sometimes. To get music, I usually just borrow cds from my friends and copy them. I am more curious to see if the RIAA will go after cd burning software companies or computer manufacturers. Or maybe they will try to put some sort of a lock on cds so they can't be copied. Who knows.

I disagree, I think that the quality of good MP3s is fine. That's speaking as a professional and just as a listener. I mean there are some bad MP3s, but most of them are good enough for me. I still buy CDs though. Simply 'cause I like to own an original, properly packaged copy of an album.

At some point they'll start making Audio CDs that will be difficult to copy, but I think even that is a joke...It would only take a couple of nerds to figure out how to copy them, without compromising the quality.

I agree with you there that there are a lot of good quality mp3s, it's just the occasional crummy or cut off one that annoys me.

Isnt the IRAA or the ARII or something like that, some music industry in america screwing up all the songs downloaded from kazaa? Like 10 seconds into the song it will go bazerk.

I use WINMX to download songs, except it is shit slow because not a lot of people use it....

I used to use blubster, but because of my new router i cannot log onto it. THat program was sweet.

Bottom line is i think i'll have to go and start to buy cd's..

ARIA is just the Australian version of RIAA --> Australian Record Industry Association and Recording Industry Association of America.

I haven't heard of anything about them changing songs and then sharing them again though. Even so you can block their ip addresses so the results won't show anyway.

As for the program shutting down, I don't think that will happen, and even if it does a new one will replace it.

I don't think so. I believe trying to stop illegal music downloading is one hell of a task that the RIAA won't accomplish any time soon.

But then again if by some chance people do get caught then they are pretty screwed. But true the RIAA has a huge job ahead of them, but i think they are determined to finish it, although it will never be fully stopped they can probably intimidate a lot of people to stop illegal downloading.
