I think it depends on the amount of stuff that you download.
260 out of a few hundred million people is a JOKE though.
And it is only Kazaa, Limewire is still safe to use.

Well OK ther's a "chance".
But I'm just curious - How are they able to bust someone?
How do they do it?

well they retrieve your ip adress, look on your cookies(which are history of a certain program) and its pretty easy to find information on you when they have your ip adress. So basically they send you a letter saying you a breaking the law and fine you, it just happended to my friend a week ago, luckily his dad is a cop.

I see.
But isn't the very existance of Kazaa against the law?
If their so afraid of people downloading music - Why not just simply shut down Kazaa, Limewire and Edonkey? Or at least prevent that software from being developed?

thats exactly what I was thinking, I'm still not sure, but I think its because to shut down a whole website is too hard, and they would rather bust some people first before shutting down the whole site.Anyways it's pretty much pointless because they have so many links to get these programs.

Hey!
I did some checking.
Kazaa site was ordered to shut down and got shut down several times ; but each time the makers of Kazaa simply created a "mirror" site.
They shut down one site - another appears.
And so it goes on and on...
I think the whole "busting" business is just an attempt to discourage people that download stuff. It has very little impact though. There are still millions and millions of people, who download tons of stuff.
