tell me david, how did it really change everything IDM wise? don't you think Aphex's Richard D. James album changed IDM before cichlisuite did?

all they used was basically a Nord Lead

but yes, I totally agree with you about the "sound design"...Booth even mentioned in an interview that they were both fond of architecture and try to blend it into the music that's in their minds

Suicide: Suicide (First Album) (1977) - An album that helped spawn three different genres of music: industrial, synth-pop and post-punk.

i made a ****ing goof up on your post horakhti, and I am terribly sorry, if you remember what you said to Kraftwerk please put it up, instead of quoting you, i accidently edited you w/o realizing it, and I apologize, i was just gonna say

I thought Throbbing Gristle was basically known as the first "industrial" group and helped spawn it, but maybe i'm mistaken

and again, I apologize

Now that's one of the oldies that I haven't had a chance to listen to...Everytime I look into buying one, they go way up there, so I just can't afford something I've never heard before...

I think I said something like this:

"I wanted to rescue this thread, because I think it's a good one, and also add a couple of my own:

Kraftwerk: Computer World (1981) - One of the first electronic bands, arguably one of the most influential and definitely one of the greatest. There's also Trans-Europe Express and Autobahn, but I think this is their masterpiece. A must-listen.

Suicide: Suicide (First Album) (1977) - An album that helped spawn three different genres of music: industrial, synth-pop and post-punk. Often categorized as punk - they were playing CBGB's at the same time as the Ramones and all those other bands - their music is entirely electronic. Definitely worth a listen."

Equinox, there's actually some debate about who's the first industrial band, which is why I said "helped spawn" instead of just "spawned". Cabaret Voltaire started making music in 1974 but they didn't record anything until 1978. Throbbing Gristle formed in 1975 and released their first album in 1977. Suicide started making music in the "early-to-mid-70's", a few years before their 1977 debut, and they aren't exactly industrial. Kraftwerk started before any of these bands, and it's been said that "Metal On Metal" is the first true industrial song. But of course, Kraftwerk isn't really an industrial band.

Equinox, Klaus Shulze -Timewind is the album that made me say "I want an instrument that does THAT." So began my 30yr love affair with all things synth related. My first keyboard was a monophonic Moog prodigy (Which I recorded on cassette, then payed back through a miked up portable tape and I'd play over the top. Oh those early days!)
Sadly, I never did have the money to buy the sort of gear that sounded like THAT so I never really achieved my goal, unless the softsynth Moog Modular V is as good as the real thing, I don't suppose I ever will. But its a hell of a lot of fun trying.
If you treat yourself to a new album. Make it Timewind. Body Love 2 is a good one as well.
