Favorite songs to play?

Just looking for some suggestions. I'm probably past the 'beginner' stage, into the intermediate stage, trying to understand the major scale....Minor pentatonic, and all that. So don't give me anything too hard

But any suggestions on songs you like to play, that are failry easy, and sound good? Just riffs or intros maybe.

Here's a few I play every time I pick my guitar up....

Dry Kill Logic- Goodnight(very simple, my favorite, beautiful sound)
Led Zeppelin- Heartbreaker(main riff, simple, good excercise if you use 3 fingers)
Blind Melon- Change(3 chords, with minor changes)
Mad Season- River of Deceit
Pearl Jam- Daughter(very very simple rythym)
Pantera- Floods(main riff, either low filtered guitar or bass)
Acid Bath- Scream of the Butterfly(guitar or bass line not sure)

right so where you're at right now in terms of learning the theory behind playing is beyond anything i know but it's all good hehehe... and by judging from the fact that you're trying to understand scales and consider yourself beyond the beginner stage i'm assuming you're looking to learn more lead and slighty more complex stuff...

i haven't played much guitar in a while... especially not covers but either way i always loved playing along to these songs... i'll post 6 for now...

red hot chili peppers - give it away (frusciante has admitted that he completely borrowed and funked out the riff for sabbath's sweet leaf for this song...)

soundgarden - face pollution... the lead in this one isn't as tough to play as it sounds once you practice it a few times...

jimi hendrix - voodoo chile (slight return) - i was just talking about this song in another thread hehehe... but it's not that tough to grasp... copying hendrix's nuances might be but the gist of the song is a blues riff in E... err... Eb...

pearl jam - alive - again the lead sounds more complex than it is... it's pretty much a standard blues rock solo... nothing too extravaggant but lots of fun to improvise over once you get used to playing that style of lead...

led zeppelin - the ocean... the riff on this one is just awesome... especially if you have an octaver hehehe... the lead gets a bit tricky at the end though... quite twiddly but if you're looking to build up your chops it's a good place to learn something a little spiffier...

smashing pumpkins - cherub rock - this is a great song to learn to play octave chords on... the entire verse riff is played in octaves and the chorus uses slightly odd chord shapes... the lead isn't that tough either but it's still fun to play hehehe...

and if you've got an acoustic 'over the hills and far away' by zeppelin is another great song to learn...

Nice thanks, I totally forgot about Under the Bridge, the tab looks more difficult than I would have expected though.

under the bridge looks hard at first especially the intro... but it's not that tough once you get used to it... it's all the hendix-isms that frusciante tosses into his verse parts... i found it easier to play it with my thumb on the low E too... just get used to strumming the chords and moving between the shapes frusciante uses before focusing on his intricacies...

just keep in mind that the verse is E / B / C#m / A and the chorus is F#m / E / B / F#m

i just loaded up the tab file from an olga mirror... i can see why it looks so tough for you... holy crap is that ever a messy file...

another really good song to practice quick chord changes and strumming with is 'breaking the girl'...

i don't know how many times i played along to blood sugar sex magik in my bedroom at my mom's house but i actually wore out the cd (after i wore out the tape...)

Lol yeah, that's the same tab I was looking at probably. I mean I guess it's not 'hard to play' but at least hard to memorize.

i know what you mean... memorizing is good to a certain extent... i got to a point where it was ALL i did... i didn't really know how to really play the instrument... i just regurgitated someone else's parts over and over... it's a good way to develop technical skill... and i could do it pretty well if the disc was playing or everyone else was playing the same cover but it took me a while to get over the memorization aspect and to really start playing for myself...

I had the same problem when I learned Under the Bridge. I tried to play note for note what was written in the tab, but that's not how it should be done. I seriously doubt many musicians play their songs the exact same each time through. More likely they play around the base chords and throw in what sounds good. I guess I'm just saying you shouldn't stress over getting it exactly how it is on the cd. I hope that makes sense.
