Yeah! Without Kelli Dayton, the Sneaker Pimps sound hollow and uninteresting - to these ears at least. According to the Sneaker Pimps' web site, they got rid of her for two reasons. One, because they were "anxious to avoid comparison" to "the proliferation of female fronted trip-hop bands." And two, they "preferred the sound of (Chris Corner's) vocal with those songs. The songs were much more autobiographical than those on Becoming X and it seemed less honest to get Kelli to sing someone else's thoughts."

Umm... Yeah.

The real reason, according to everyone else BUT the Sneaker Pimps' web site, is that they weren't getting along. Apparently she's a real spark-plug and they had lots of problems with her. They eventually got so annoyed that they ditched her.

As far as what she's doing now, your guess is as good as mine. Cleaning toilets? Slinging fries? Selling Avon? Most recently she lent her vocals to some Bryan Ferry tracks on 2002's "Frantic". I guess that earned her a few bucks for cab fare. Guess she learned the "don't be such a diva" lesson the hard way.

Kelli Dayton now goes by the name of Kelli Ali, and the songs she's doing now are far better than the Pimps will ever manage.

I posted a question recently asking what has happened to the chick singer.Thanks for the replies i now know she's called Kelli Ali.Funny thing is i heard that the Sneaker Pimps were gonna get a new singer called Kelli Ali.Is Kelli joining to rejoin.I hope so i loved Spin Spin Sugar.

funny thing that huh, ditching her, and then proceeding to make a mess up of everything they built up, dissappearing into obsecurity, and now that she's started her solo career and making a fan base of her own, they've asked her to rejoin them, to capatalise on her talent

Yeah that would be interesting if she rejoined, or did a collaboration with them, but i prefer Kelli's solo stuff.
