O.K time for some quotes:
first, a classic:
Now here's a likkle truth
Open up your eye
While you're checking out the boom-bap, check the exercise
Take the word "overseer," like a sample
Repeat it very quickly in a crew for example
Overseer
Overseer
Overseer
Overseer
Officer, Officer, Officer, Officer!
Yeah, officer from overseer
You need a little clarity?
Check the similarity!
The overseer rode around the plantation
The officer is off patroling all the nation
The overseer could stop you what you're doing
The officer will pull you over just when he's pursuing
The overseer had the right to get ill
And if you fought back, the overseer had the right to kill
The officer has the right to arrest
And if you fight back they put a hole in your chest!
(Woop!) They both ride horses
After 400 years, I've got no choices!
KRS-ONE / Sound Of Da Police

and here is a more recent tribute to that one:
I met a black man who became a police officer
officer, officer, officer, officer, officer, overseer
he tried to tell me it was the only job available
either rob or join the mob 'cause I'm not salable
one night he went out on an undercover sting-ing
bought some smack tried to break the heroin ring-ring
Two cops white cops saw juggling goin' down
they spilled his brain like homey the ****in' clown
He's gone!
Spearhead/ Tha Payroll

Here's someone that wouldn't like to "thank god":
I'm sick of working for crumbs and filling up the prisons
Dying over money and relying on religion
For help. We do for self like ants in a colony
Organize the wealth into a socialist economy
A way of life based off the common need
And all my comrades are ready
We just spreading the seed
Dead Prez/ Police state

I think that any political music can make a change but it needs to be good. I mean nobody wants to listen to music that sounds shit. I don't however think that this type of music will effect many people but it's just like anything, it has it's own audience...it's just that political music, especially political rap has a pretty narrow fan base IMO.

Look at RATM, through their lyrics they tried to make a change, but they didnt achieve much, apart form winning the hearts of minds of squillion round the world. If we can understand and relate to the statements being made, its good, and may motivate us to go about changing it. No politician is going to cut taxes cause he heard 'a cool song' the other day.
For all you Aussies, give The Herd a listen.
