I posted on this a while ago and since have found many great guitarists. Kerry King always impresses me with his hyper speed solos. He's probably the thrash master.

I thought it was widely understood and accepted (although personally I do not know) that kurt cobain was not that great when it came to playing guitar? I am wrong because thats the message I've been getting since nirvana saw the light of day.

Right. Kurdt wasnt the best guitarist, but he knew how to put a half decent melody together that would support his lyrics. That was all he needed and look at how effective it was.

Best Guitarist... Personally I love Yngwie Malmsteen's guitar work, it's inxcredible. Also Eddie Van Halen, that man knows the guitar. Dave Mustaine is good and so are Kirk Hammet and James Hetfield. Randy Rhodes and Zak Wilde both are really good too.

No one mentioned Bassists, I don't know if that's cause there's another thread or if it is just universally understood that it's Cliff Burton.
