Lightbulb one of the Norah's origins

when you talk about female jazz singers that play piano, Norah Jones is definitely the hottest name right now but have you thought of the tradition of contemporary female jazz singers? i think Diane Schuur is worth a mention. she's been around for almost 20 years and received 2 GRAMMYs for best jazz vocalist. her new album is coming out on Concord Records. the funny thing about this album is, it's produced by Barry Manilow. Barry Manilow? yes, can you imagine? he even duets with her. it's great though. my friend just send me this e-card:

Norah Jones isn't jazz, it's just pop with a jazzy tune.

Faay Claesen, that's jazz, Diana Krall, Dee dee Bridgewater

Norah most certainly didn't sell a billion copies of her album because she's jazz. People also think Evanescence is goth, remember.

She's got a decent voice, or it appears that way. I'd love for her to stop singing in the same octave over and over again.

She won the Best New Artist award at the grammies, which basically means her career is over.
