Question phil spector

Living in Brazil makes me a little bit apart from the news. I heard that Phil Spector is envolved in a criminal accusation but thats all i know. Do the persons here like his work? And can anybody tell me what's he's going thru right now?

Phil Spector has been accused of murder in connection with the shooting death of a girlfriend which occured in his Hollywood mansion earlier this year.

For my own part, I consider Spector's contribution to popular music to be monumental as a record producer. His "wall of sound" approach to production made a huge impact on the music of the 60s and 70s.

Reverend, youre a rock encyclopedia... thanks for the information.
im im really out of time! perhaps i should have posted this tread in the rock section. Pop changed so much ( to worst ) in the last thirty years... those who today listen to spice girls and their kind of crap should remember, or at last try to know, that in the sixties there were some really good and serious pop music... thats what i think...

Yes, those are exactly my feelings. I have mentioned a singer/songwriter named David Wilcox fairly often around here. He does fine accoustic guitar-driven pop with very insightful lyrics. He's been around for about the last decade or so. I think Ben Folds (both with and without the "Five") has done some very high quality pop in recent years. I've heard some very fine stuff from Ani DeFranco.

Radio, video, and the music industry in general have become the problem. It's really sad, because before the early 90s, they were doing a fairly decent job of being the solution.

"First Band On The Moon" is an excellent album, I think. I tried one of the Cardigans' other albums and didn't like it near as much, but "First Band..." is a keeper in my collection. I just read up on the High Llamas in All Music Guide, and they were compared to "Smile" era Brian Wilson/Beach Boys, which would mean I would probably enjoy them.

So much music, so little time (and spending money)...

yeah i never really got into brian wilson but my friends who have couldn't stop talking about him while we listened to the high llamas... there's a good compilation out now too... recently released and easy to find... it's a 2 disc set called 'retrospective, rarities, and instrumentals'... i'm not huge on the first disc but the instrumentals disc is fantastic

and i hear you on the cardigans... i bough 'first band...' on a whim since i liked their iron man cover and i was pleasantly surprised by the rest of the album... i didn't really like lovefool when it was getting airplay but once i paid attention to the words and noticed the irony and cynicsm running through the disc i came to like it quite a bit... the album they released after that 'gran turismo' was still good but it didn't have the sugary-pop style of 'first band...' i haven't heard anything from the last album they released either...

Im listening right now to the High Llamas, never have heard them before. It really sounds like the things that Brian Wilson was experimenting around 67... man, they're good! I cant remember any other band that has went so deeply in Beach Boys Smile's era kind of composition... thanks for the indication, boys.
