Misunderstood lyrics
Have you ever thought lyrics for a song were something but later found out what they really were?
Do you just make up words when you don't know what the artist is singing?
If so, what are they?

oh yeah, when I first heard Master and Servant by Depeche Mode way back in the 80's, I thought it was about workers and employees... little did I know it was actually about S&M relationships... "you treat me like dog, get me down on my knees, we call it master and servant, we call it master and servant" still love that song!
yup, I always make up words if I don't know what the singer is singing about. that happens a lot when I listen to skinny puppy cause they always distort the voice and give you no lyrics sometimes. and also, the early materials from cocteau twins, you just can't make out what her lyrics are cause the way she sings. but there are actual lyrics for the songs.

Actually, this is utterly commonplace for me. I listen to such a variety of music, with such a variety of musicians, half the time I can't understand them. Take, for instance, the song I was just listening to. It's a Hindi song - and I don't speak Hindi. Luckily, I have a friend that does if I ever want to learn the real lyrics, but hey... I sing it anyway! Even in English, there are some singers with such a heavy accent that certain things just plain don't come out in an intelligble fashion fo me. Lords of Acid, The Cranberries, Dido, The Clay People, Prodigy... and plenty more I've either screwed up, or never gotten the real words for. Gotta love it!

I do often make up lyrics when I don't understand them,, it is usually gibberish, but it helps when you want to sing along with the song... One I got wrong for years was that old pop rock song "Drag in The Line" by Tommy James.. I always thought the title of the song and lyrics were "Hangin' Around",, at least that's what it sounds like he is singing...

I do that all the time. And when i find out what the real lyrics are I'm always disapointed. My lyrics are always better.
Some times I like songs better when i don't look to much into the lyrics.
