I've been hearing a ton of hype about the Mars Volta lately, so I finally bothered getting both of their releases. I was skeptical at first, but I've since been converted. What a band! Excellent instrumental interplay, great sonic variety and use of texture / atmosphere, fantastic production, great vocals, and yet they still manage to create a sense of pop songcraft -- A+ material here.
Believe the hype. It would seem there's still some life in rock music after all.

Don McCloskey-Bombs Over Bristol
here's a brief bio lifted from his website- enormousd.com :
" His style is uncatergorizable, which by the way, is a word. One listen is enough to realize that he’s a little bit country, he’s a little bit rock-and-roll (not to mention hip-hop, folk and funk). Don's career to date has been all but ignored by the music industry at large. His pursuit of music, however, has landed him a few Philadelphia music awards, some appearances on VH1, a few songs on Philadelphia radio, a tour with G. Love and Special Sauce and a song on a Micheal Moore documentary."
I'd highly recomend checking him out--he's a super talented guy.
