I went out and spent all my Christmas money today on new CDs. Here's what I got:
"11/17/70" by Elton John (I've needed to get this one on CD for a long time.)
"Give My Regards To Broad Street" by Paul McCartney (just to complete my studio CDs on Paulie...I got it cheap, and that's a good thing, because it's not one of his best, but it does have some nice covers of Beatles tunes and a couple of good rocking originals you can't find anywhere else.)
"Hampton Comes Alive" by Phish (Expensive box set I've been wanting for a while)
"Sunny Days Again--The Best Of Lighthouse" (Lighthouse was a great jazz rock outfit with brass and strings in the early 70s, a Canadian band.)
"Joan" and "Baptism" by Joan Baez (I'm working on getting what few Joan Baez LPs I have aquired over the years on CD, at long last)
"Sticky Fingers" by the Rolling Stones
"Watermark" by Art Garfunkel (another one I've had on LP for years)

no, i was talking about sonic youth the whole time. how'd you get death cab for cutie in to the mix? anyways, answer the question for sonic youth. (screamo or more vocals) and for death cab for cutie, are they hard rock, rock, punk, emo.....

sonic youth are mostly called noise rock, experimental,...
more vocals I'd say, though quite raw, certainly Kim Gordon's voice, the female bassplayer, her husband Thurston Moore sings a bit more tuneful maybe, but still their music is not always that accessible, I guess... If you want to give them a try, I'd say pick Dirty , it's probably not their best, but an easier one it is, I guess... and it's still good, I love "Sugarkane" and "Drunken Butterfly" and...
Death Cab For Cutie is more Alternative Pop/Rock or what you want to call it...
I hope that'll help you a bit...

THeir best albums are Daydream nation, Goo and Dirty.
Sister and Evol are good as well but those first three are my favourite.
My most recently bought albums are

well some programs on the local 'alternative' radio are quite good and reading music magazines and surfing the net helps a lot
