With Autechre leaving behind the styles that made me fond of them to begin with, I have happily turned to Funckarma-
The atmospherics and complexity of "Solid State" are incredible, and when it comes to accessability, it is on the opposite end of the spectrum when contrasted against AE's latest releases-
IMO, this is a mix of Autechre-level beats/complexity, Four Tet-style warmth, and a masters synth-work----

and you can't dismiss the neo classical and swing/jazz elements involved at times...

I can't dismiss anything about Funckarma, I'm getting really into them---
What is really impressive is how f*ing good they are at blending the sounds, and how many sounds they can have going at one time without sounding cluttered-- liike so many artists do--
And also, they don't sound [over-electric], their sound isn't weighed down by robotic computer beeps and clicks.. while those elements are still their (to a point) they keep their sound very clean, very organic..

have a new review coming up on the new 12":

Funckarma “Smizm 12"

Doesn’t it seem that the Funcken brothers are just putting out 12" after 12" just to see how much material they can really put out? I mean, come on. If they are trying to match the likes of Uwe Schmidt, Pete Namlook, or even Wolfgang Voight, they need to try a bit harder, I suppose.

The opener, ‘Spunge’ , portrays the usual skittering in-your-face action that has become part of the Funcken trademark. ‘Fuse’ continues on the same path while morphing into a vaguely electrosized tune of sorts. The offbeat, jazzy atmospherics of ‘Holdgaze’ is nice enough, yet really transverses nowhere. The closer ‘Brush’, is my highlight of the album. A jazziness that, perhaps Mr. Funk would sound like if he calmed down.

Apparat's Duplex, perhaps, but the others are a bit hit or miss...he's got a new one coming out later on in the year that I'm excited about.

i must say that i never dug the Solid State album. i never connected with it. i don't know what it is about it, but i think it's because visually i do not perceive new boundaries like i did with albums like Confield or Tri-Repetae.

Because you're too focused on things to really delve deep within it. I think it's one of the most underrated albums, although it is my own opinion, of course. It may sound outdated now, but as a nice beginning (excluding the Parts 12"), I think it works quite well.

perhaps, but isn't a classic something that sounds fresh even after years of age? but how can i judge your tastes. it is a matter of opinion. i recognize it for its interesting blend of styles.
