what kind of jazz do you like best?
I was wondering, do you guys; like big band jazzy music better, or more the soft one, or the vocals?
Well, there are differrent types of jazz, so what do you like?

ah, I was thinking about this the other day. The different styles of jazz and whatnot. Theres lots of styles. Bebop, Hardbop, swing, traditional new orleans, progressive, ect. (you can tell I took a jazz history class).
I personally like the more traditional stuff of the style created initially in new orleans. Think Louie Armstrong trumpet solos. I think that is a good example.

yes, I like those the best too; the old ones, they're good. But I like the good swingy big bands too. Only when I'm in a good mood

My favorite is probably the late 50's early 60's west coast cool jazz movement.. But I do like big band, some experimental and the original New Orleans style too (later developed in the Chicago area by many early greats)....

depends on my mood it's usually a toss up between latin samba stuff like stan getz or antonio carlos jobim or crazy bop stuff like charles mingus and eric dolphy... or the more recent electro jazz like the xploding plastix / isotope 217 / jega jazzist / amon tobin / st germaine...
while the style changes the vast majority of it (90%+) is all instrumental...

There isn't really a movement in Jazz that I don't like - although contemporary jazz causes me to discriminate more critically because I feel much of it is ordinary. New Orleans, swing, bebop, cool jazz, free jazz... it's so hard to choose - don't make me.
The cool jazz era of the '50s would probably be my favorite as well.

Don`t know anything about genres within jazz, but for me it`s either electro-jazz or laid back non-vocal traditional jazz (is that "cool jazz"?).

I would have to say Jazz fusion of the 70's for me...
along with the electro jazz stars of today as panbient said: Jaga Jazzist, Amon Tobin, etc.
I'm also into free jazz/avant-garde jazz a bit, like Matthew Shipp...
