ahh, Bill Laswell, the music morpher...the only reason why i call him this (pretty stupid) is because well he's done basically almost every style imaginable and been successful at it...

I have an album that Eraldo Bernocchi did with Mick Harris, actually 2 of them and I find them to be really good...but they aren't jazz by any means...

you like fusion eh? ever listen to Herbie Hancock's "Headhunters", I'd hope so because that's a great example, along with the *****es Brew as you list and possibly John McLaughlin with the Mahrivishnu Orchestra...

ever listen to Matthew Shipp, William Parker, David B. Ware, Mat Maneri, or Guillermo Brown...they are all doing their own free jazz/avant-garde/hip hop thing on Thirsty Ear right now and its great!

Yeah, I love Herbie's stuff but I like his work with Miles probably the most, although it's a really close tie with the Headhunters. Mahavishnu is great as well.

The album 'Charged' is like, techno drum beat and driving bass lines, with a very "Miles Davis"-y trumpet over it all, with some electronic stuff thrown in.

Never heard those last guys you mentioned :-/

I can't believe I never posted in this thread!

In any case, I'd have to say that Avant-Garde/Free-Jazz would have to be my favorite Jazz style...I love its intensity, creativity, and honesty...

...that said, I'd put Hard Bop/Post Bop directly under it, as well as some of the Modern Creative/Post-Fusion type artists that have come about lately. I also enjoy Fusion, Cool, Big Band, Swing, Dixieland, World Fusion, Chamber Jazz, Jazz-Funk, Samba...basically, just about everything short of "Smooth Jazz", if it should even be considered Jazz...

wow, talk about digging up an old thread!

I have a preference for Avant-Garde/Free Jazz, as well as hard-bop from the late 50s, and 60s.

I still can't say that I've got one favourite jazz style, but I'm trying to get to know more about it... If I would have to say one now... I guess it would have to be vocal jazz, that's probably the most accessible one... Got a Chet Baker compilation, is nice, although a bit too over-sweet... and I'm planning to get me something from ladies like Billie Holiday and Julie London... I also like some electro-jazz, like Jaga Jazzist... and a compilation with more be-bop like music, I think... 's got some really cool tracks

New Orleans and Swing, but pretty much anything. I like Big band stuff too, since I'm in one, that would make since.
