You just put in bass that's lower than 20 htz (the lowest hearing level). You can't hear it but when it's loud enough you can feel it.
Is that what you are talking about?

yep, good bass sound is hard to nail down sometimes. It takes a good subwoofer to really hear the bass and sometimes this will cause a person to over compensate for the lack of bass with highs too low or too much compression that takes out some of the lower end of the bass which you feel. Many times... a cool bass trick is to take a very low frequency as mentioned above and then double it with another bass hit for more rounded and powerful bass sound. I love the sound of analogish bass synths done this way.
