i have seen ppl mentioning them here at radiomute, but i couldn't find their own thread.
i want to talk about them. they are so COoL. i luv them !!!!
and i especially like the bassist, Flea. His is brilliant!
is there anyone who thinks the same?
i have many friends who started playing bass because of flea. his pretty influential.
and i found that some of their songs were the best guitar tableture for beginners to practise on...
.... yeah i didn't realise it til i posted it.
i just kept on thinking that they r funk.so once i saw funk, i popped them in
hope that someone will help me move it back to the rock section.....
i'd say the chilis fit in both... they were very much a funk band when they started out... but instead of drawing their primary inspiration from r&b they took it form punk rock...
personally they're the direct reason i stated playing music... the first time i heard them was like the best kick in the head possible... i was 14 and it totally changed how i saw and heard music... it was the jungle man video... i still consider 'freaky styley' to be their best album... and while i still respect the music they make i'm one of the fans that prefers the pre-californication stuff...
and as cool as flea is i'd say john frusciante was far more influential...

RHCP are the best!! I really like them a lot. Flea is indeed a great bassplayer, and my best friend also looks up to him a lot. I like their style a lot, it's very funky, but still rock.
yeah funk is the word i 'd use to decribe their music.
yeah i agree with u, dave. i prefer their pre-californication stuffs.
but their later stuffs are still fine.
they are one of my fav bands of all-time.
I really like their BSSM album...lot's of great tracks but mostly because that album came out when I started listening to them. Great music but yeah, their newer stuff isn't as enjoyable as what they used to be.
Flea's from Melbourne!

I used to like them alot. I guess I have kind of outgrown their music. Now when I pick up Blood, Sugar it sounds all pretty sophomoric. I still like 'Under the Bridge' though.
unlike metallica i still like the chili peppers after their stylistic change... i'm not a huge fan and i don't run out to get their new albums... but i don't change the channel when their new songs come on... then again their progression from happy-go-lucky funk rockers to pop songwriters seems a bit more natural when you start reading about the individual tastes and ambitions of the band members and take note of how the band progressed through the 90s...
