He IS the best drummer of all time. Go listen to his rendition of "A Night in Tunisa"...he's playin' so fast, you wouldn't believe it's humanly possible. Ther is NOBODY that's even close to that fast!

Buddy ran his band with an iron fist. He could play thousands of notes per minute with any arm or leg. The only man who's ever mastered the drums. He was playing a snare in the circus when he was 2!!

I know, I am sorry,, I put the list together too fast and left off some giants.. I had mentioned Rich before in another thread when talking about great jazz drummers and somehow he slipped my mind here...

There is a customer of mine in North Carolina who has started a Buddy Rich museum.. He has collected a bunch of his kits over the years and other memorabilia.. I tracked down several autographed copies of Buddy Rich biographies for the guy...

Oh...missed that. Well, I think I probably get out Ellington as often as I get out Louis Armstrong or Dave Brubeck, so it's a tie for those three if you're talking SPECIFICALLY about Ellington as a recording artist.

But I still rate him tops according to the way I misunderstood the question...

That's the coolest thing I've ever heard. I'm gonna come visit that someday, and if can get enough money together, I'm gonna try and buy a kit off him if he'll let me......

I am not sure if he would sell anything or not.. He is a Buddy Rich freak himself (and a amateur drummer)..

I remember as a kid seeing Buddy Rich on with Johnny Carson all the time.. Carson loved him..

Sorry.. I had stated in another thread that I wasn't familiar enough with Chet Baker to comment on him.. But I have heard he is great!!!... (I love that west coast cool jazz sound, I am sure I would like him)...

Tell us about Baker, I would like to hear more about him (besides what the standard bios have about him,, what do you think of his music)...
