Okay.... go to http://www.fruityloops.com, download the demo. Here you'll learn the basics of how a step sequencer (drum machine) works, and the playlist, and then your skills will progress from there. The tutorial that is supplied with the demo should be enough.

if you have windows 98/ME download pro tools free version. you can record your vocals on that program and edit/tweak with your recordings.

Nonono, you dont have to be. The drum machine is the easist way to arrange music, though. D/L it and you'll see how it works.

I think Twister just wanted to record his voice/live music, not make music on the computer.

The recording program is not all that important. Just get the cheapest one that wont distort your voice. The two important things are the microphone and the soundcard. You're gonna want a good soundcard that wont slip up on you or distort your voice any. If you've got lots o money then go for an external soundcard. The ones that are made for recording allow you to tweak your sound alot. But any 32 bit soundcard should work. Get a nice microphone, you might want to spend most of your money here. Get one made for recording music vocals, it makes a BIG difference. You'll want a pop-screen in front of it too to keep the shockwaves your mouth creates from hitting the mic. Buy an adapter to run the mic into your soundcard (use the "line in" input, not the microphone input" All of this should clear up your sound pretty good.
