To really appreciate their early 70s work, you have to kind of forget it's "The Beach Boys" if what you loved was the stuff before and/or including "Pet Sounds". First of all, Brian Wilson was well into his withdrawal from active creative input by the time of the "Surf's Up" album, which meant radical changes in the group's sound. Under the direction of manager/colaborator Jack Reilly, they cast themselves as kind of a "back to nature" folky-progressive-rock band during that era, and as such they did some great material (but there was plenty of filler, too).
Some of my favorite songs from that era are:
*Sail On Sailor (from "Holland)
*Long Promised Road (from "Surf's Up")
*Feel Flows (from "Surf's Up")
*Trader (from "Holland")
*Till I Die (from "Surf's Up)
*Surf's Up (from "Surf's Up"--actually from the "Smile" sessions, but that's another story)
*Marcella (from "Carl And The Passions--So Tough")
*All This Is That (from "Carl And The Passions--So Tough)
