Amon Tobin

Honestly, I don't think I could ever express my appreciation from this Brazilian artist...his jazz/brazilian beats+drum n' bass style along with breakbeats are probably the best mix of elements that I've ever really heard. He's very underrated, possibly because he's put out most of his material on Ninja Tune, and well, he's not really considered IDM or anything...I wouldn't put him in any category, but jazz would probably be the closest on most of his stuff...especially Permutation. I do like Bricolage alot, but Permutation and Out from Out where, along with Supermodified seem to be some of my faves...

Rank your Amon Tobin albums people!

10. Chomp Samba (single)
9. Four Ton Mantis (single)
8. Piranha Breaks (single)
7. Creatures 12"
6. Verbal (single)
5. Adventures in Foam (as Cujo)
4. Supermodified
3. Bricolage
2. Out from Out Where
1. Permutation

Wasn't sure if a thread like this happened in the past or not, but i know there hasn't been one recently...

I only got 2 albums from this guy, Supermodified and Out from out where. I like his crazy beat stuff instead of the jazzy stuff. that's not wrong, is it?????

Amon Tobin has been mentioned a lot earlier. Supermodified is really exceptional, but I didn`t dig his new one when I heard it in the shop. Maybe it will grow on me if I buy it???
I also have the double cd Adventures in Foam. It`s ok, but it needs more variations within the songs.

Some time ago we had this dj promoting his Amon Tobin/Cujo mix here http://www.radiomute.com/t1516.html it`s really good, even worth the 100megs.

Cheers,
Haakon

i don't know if i could choose a favorite album... he's got enough variety to fit most of my moods... personally i think i like his jazzier stuff best... i still like 'out from out where' a lot but i think 'bricolage' would take top spot for me... and as far as eps go i can only think of one in my collection that tops 'piranah breaks' and that's boards of canada's 'beautiful place out in the country'
