Thumbs up Katalyst

I'd just like to share with you guys an Australian act called Katalyst. They're two turntablists from New South Wales (I'm pretty sure they are!) and they're starting to make an impact in Australia. I really like their music and I was wondering what peoples opinions were.

Anyway, here's their site. It has songs of theirs under audio for those who are interested:

P.S. Does anyone know of similar sounding artists? I really enjoy listening to this style of music.

I don't know what to call their style, ...
It blew my mind when I heard it. their music is cool.
i especially like their Showtime. its my personal favorite song , to the classic, high energy Freak Out. u can get pumped up to it or just enjoy it quietly on yer pc, but u can't afford to miss it.
for those who haven't heard of it, u should definitely give it a try....
p.s:my appreciation to em is true and its all from heart. though i'm not madly into em as much as it sounds.

Wow! You like them? Cool!

Showtime is a great song but they have better songs than that in my opinion. I'm pleased you gave them the time to have a listen. Know any similar sounding artists?

By the way, for those who don't want to download their songs, it's all streamed so you can listen to them with a 56 K modem in seconds.

I think so too but a lot of Australian groups don't get world recognition until they are really big here already. The only band that's really gone against the trends was The Vines.

Hopefully it wont take too long until people overseas hear of Katalyst...they're pretty cool!

Ok - this music is just plain wild-cool. It's a serious mixing of Funk, Soul, Rock and Jazz backdrops with a modernized hip-hop beats, scratches, and antiquated drum riff loops. This is some of the coolest off-the-cuff mixing I've heard in a while, just because it's remixed so damn well. I'm very envious of their talent here - masterful use of turntables! I'll probably never think they're the coolest thing in the world, but I do have to say, they've got some very innovative ideas - and a very cool sound. If this isn't released in the States, I want a copy ... I'm holding you responsible to ship it, qwerty!! Thanks for sharing this link, I've only heard 2/5 songs, but I'm way intrigued.

As for similar artists... I'm not sure you'll find anything exactly like it. Some Chemical Brothers tunes get in a similar area, but definitely not the same. Same with some of the more ecclectic Fatboy Slim stuff. I can't, however, say I've heard anyone that's based their style on this motif. If anyone else knows of current releases that share this style, please let me know as well!

Thanks again!

I'm glad you liked it RMX!

I actually went and saw them play live last weekend and it was a pretty good show...played some cool funky beats and it was a really cheap too so they are obviously in it for the music which is a good point.

If anyone gets a chance to see them, it's a good show...go for it!

Oh by the way, the only group that I can think of that sound like Katalyst is Dynamo Productions.

They actuallay are touring together in Australia at the momnet and I saw them last weekend as well...they were good too but their set was REALLY long! Anyway, Dynamo productions are from the UK and you can also hear their music on the web site:

www.dynamoproductions.com

Looking at that web site they are doing a gig in Chicago in a few days time (22nd of June)
