Folk Rock: Who do you like??

Over the last 10 years or so I have gotten much more into folk rock... Some of my favorites are:

Buffalo Springfield

The Byrds

Nick Drake

C.S.N.

Simon and Garfunkel

Pearls Before Swine,, (I have only heard a handful of their songs, but all are really good)...

Gordon Lightfoot

Bob Dylan

Donovan

Neil Young (he covered other genre too of course)

--------------------------------------------------

Who do you like (any great one's I am missing???)...

Well, all the ones you named (except that I haven't heard a lot of Nick Drake or Pearls Before Swine, but I do like what I've heard).

I'm also a big fan of James Taylor, especially the earlier albums. I think he would qualify as folk-rock or at least folk-influenced pop.

There's an artist of the last 15 years named David Wilcox who is really wonderful and is very much rooted in the folk-rock tradition.

I don't like Folk at all really. I think it has something to do with going to a steiner primary school when I was young and all the parents were into Folk music...they used to make us do folk dancing as well which we all really hated. AGHH!

It's also generally too slow and whiney for me which makes me twitch although there are a few exceptions.

I like most of the stuff in that list, especially drake, dylan and lightfoot. also ryan adams, don't know if you would class that as folk-rock.

I haven't listened to enough folk music to actually know what "folk" is...I guess I would associate Beck's "Sea Change" to have a folk sound, yet I'm not really sure, am I right?

Yeah, V.E., Beck's "Sea Change" is a very 60s folk-rock influenced album.

I love folk music, most particularly the sub-genre of folk-rock. Most of my favorites have already been mentioned: Bob Dylan, Buffalo Springfield, C, S, & N, Joni Mitchell, The Byrds, Gordon Lightfoot, Simon & Garfunkel, Donovan, Neil Young(!), James Taylor, Leonard Cohen,....

To this list I would only add a few artists who float into the genre: Cat Stevens, Jackson Browne, Loggins & Messina, Nick Drake, Jim Croce, Tracy Chapman, The Lovin' Spoonful, and last but not least The Grateful Dead
