No problem!

I've seen a lot of these bands and they're sooooooo amazing live. I don't get to see them where I now live, because they don't get much promotion here in the U.S. Overseas they play to thousands at the festivals over there.

Just trying to create some exposure so they can tour more.

May not matter to me anymore, I'm moving to Germany soon, and will be in traveling distance soon.

I play all those artists and a lot of Asian, Gypsy and Middle Eastern stuff too on my net station.

sure I'll remember more later.

Boiled in Lead - phew, and I thought I was the only person who had ever heard of them. They describe what they do as 'country music from many countries', but at a stretch I suppose it could be folk rock. Their album From the Ladle to the Grave is excellent, which I bought at one of their concerts in about 1989.

Fairport Convention, of course. No one does folk rock better. Some early Jethro Tull, before they turned to corporate rock in the '80s. John Renbourn, John Martyn, Richard and Lynda Thompson. John Martyn and Nick Drake were friends and both signed to Island Records. Martyn's song 'Solid Air' is about Drake. Who knows, if Nick Drake had lived, he might have been as prolific as Martyn.

A stretch?

How do you see them differing from Fairport Convention?

Ladle to the Grave I find definitely their best. Not too hot on the stuff after Todd Menton left.

I see BiL as being in the 'world music' category, and not directly comparable with Fairport, which is a folk band with electric guitars. Perhaps I take too parochial a view, regarding folk music as being from the islands where I live, and folk music from elsewhere as being 'world music'.

The other comparison is that BiL are a great bunch of musicians, but they don't have a Richard Thompson or a Dave Swarbrick, and Todd Menton is no Sandy Denny. In some ways Fairport is more than a band, it's an institution where individual members come and go, but the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Well their first 2 album were entirely Celtic, I'm assuming that's the islands your talking about. Otherwise you'd call them world rock I guess?

Pretty strict definition of the word folk.

So traditional Swedish music in your definition is world music as apposed to Swedish folk music?

I've always called traditional music from any country as folk music. That which is more of the common man's music as apposed to classical or something.
