it's kind of used now to describe music that sings about love, but the "oouoh fluffy bunnies and doves" kind of love. If it makes me feel sick I call it pop!

I guess you can analyze this topic as much as you want, but I think as time has progressed, the connotation of "pop" music has deviated from it's original denotation.

Well, "connotation" means the popular definition or generalized definition and its associated feelings, emotions, interpretations, etc. Whereas, "denotation" means the literal dictionary/textbook defintion of. Like, take "fan" for example (in the context of the phrase "I'm a fan"), the connotation would lead to the understanding of the phrase to be "I'm an avid supporter of (whatever)", however the denotation, because fan is short for fanatic, would lead to the "I'm actually crazy (in the literal psycho sense) for (whatever.)" interpretation...yeah, I know. I suck at explanations. >thanks, a lot, AP English. DAGNABIT!<

Crimey VonSchlept!, they're just some literary terms I recalled from a couple months back in high school English class, nothing spectacular.
But on the topic of pop, sadly, I believe that we may someday have to resign to the idea that "pop" will exclusively encompass the Britney Spearss,*NSYNCs, and all the other "bubblegum pop" artists of the world, because that is where it seems to be headed. Occasionally, there may be some pop artist that will come along with a different sound, but with the explosive commercial success of the hyper-produced popstars of this era, the pop playing field has been greatly influenced, and perhaps, been permanently altered to accomodate the music. So instead of the music being classified under the "pop" genre, the interpretation of the genre has evolved, so to speak, effectively conforming to the specific music that made it so commerically successful. I think this is the interpretation of pop music that CrazyLune criticized so bluntly in that other thread. It's not really closed-mindedness so much as a newer connotation of "pop". Now, when you mention pop as a genre, most people will think of one of these archetypal teeny-bopper pop icons instead of, say, Michael Jackson, who incidentally was proclaimed the King of Pop less than two decades ago. It's really quite sad in my opinion.
