I went into the option panel and change to automatic codec update whatever the shit it is. and it downloaded fine but still no picture or sound...

You need to get seperate codecs (independent codecs that don't belong to microsoft etc)...not auto update your existing ones as this just gives you shitty standard ones that wont play anything. Does that make sense?

Anyway, You basically just need to download some codecs off the net, not auto-update them.
