Question Comparison of Logic, Cubase, Ableton LIVE

Hi,

I currently use ProTools LE and Reason.....I bought reFuse (very cheap, $29), which enables me to get input directly from Reason into ProTools, but it is so tedious this way that I would rather just use audio software that already has Rewire, so that Reason very easily plays/records into the software. (There are rumors that Digidesign is working on releasing a version that works with Reason, but I don't know when this will happen.) I can pay a cheap $200 to get the new version of Cubase (a deal offered to people who attend Steinberg's demos), or I can buy LIVE or use Logic 6.0. (I believe that previous versions of Logic aren't compatible with Reason.)

I use Reason for my tracks but need an audio software program to record my voice and any other instruments I add in, and I want the ability to do this all simultaneously. (Just in case anyone thinks of advising me to solve the problem by first creating tracks in Reason and then exporting them as loops to ProTools.)

So.....just wondering what people's experiences have been with these three programs, and with using them with Reason. Has anyone used all three, or even two? And then there's always Nuendo. I'm not sure of the various costs of these programs, but the $200 for Cubase is definitely the cheapest.

Any feedback will be appreciated!

Hi Heather.

What platform are you on? (x86 or mac?) And what version of Protools LE are you using?

As of 3 weeks ago, Digidesign began shipping Protools LE v. 6.0.2, which not only allows PT LE to run on OSX (for the mac heads) but also supports rewire 2.0.

The only restriction, is that you must register your copy of protools LE in order to get the uprade version, and if you are on a Windows PC, I think you can download the update.

I just bought a replacement DIGI 002 two weeks ago, and recieved my new software last Monday.

their site:

www.digidesign.com

Their download page:

www.digidesign.com/download/

In order to register my digi 002, I had to send in the physical reg card that came with my unit.

On another note, I'm still trying to figure out why ableton doesn't fullly work with rewire 2.0 on OSX, and I've been in and around Ableton's user forum to no avail. Anyone else have any ways to sync protools and Ableton (preferably in a manner where I can "control" Ableton with protools, so that my digi 002 can control everything on the fly...)

Cheers.
DD
