(e) - a long answer to your question. conor oberst, the brains behind the band, has been doing this stuff since he was 11. as he got older, he had trouble finding musicians that would stay loyal to his bands, so he gave up on that. bright eyes is just conor oberst himself, with random accompanyments coming in and out of the "band". the name bright eyes refers to all the work conor has done since he was fifteen. so basically, they have been going for 8 years, but with new people each time. does that make sense? if not, email me (flabbybuttocks@aol.com).

BTW theres another off-shoot of his (or maybe one of his mates) called Son Ambulance. It's slighty happier and jollier type of gig. You should check it out if you think Bright Eyes is good but way too depressing.

ya know, just because you're deeply affected by things doesn't make them profound. I could cry over that damn plastic bag in American Beauty but that doesn't mean that it's actually beautiful or worth the film its recorded on. Bright Eyes to me is the epitome of "emo" music. Some of it really does capture a feeling very well that resonates with people, but a lot of it is just whining.

I like Bright Eyes & Desaparecidos
BE's "fevers & mirrors" is one of my favourite albums.
It's true that his music is lo-fi and that his voice is not almost the purest, but if you see further than that you can discover something very beautiful...

BTW, if anyone like bright eyes they should check out " Son, Ambulance ". It's an off-shoot project thing with a friend of his. Its similar but without the melancholy, well, not as much anyway.
