i would say the cure has a "goth look", but i would never call them gothic, too damn happy, but maybe that's a stereotype I associate with Gothic...

When saying "too happy" I meant the content of the music and not the lyrics that were being sung...now those are probably quite depressing

i doubt songs like mint car, friday i'm in love and the perfect girl could be considered gothic. eighties era cure with albums like wild mood swings, kiss me kiss me kiss me and head on the door isn't very depressing at all; it was in the early nineties with stuff like disintergration and bloodflowers that they started moving along those lines.

even though close to me isn't the most uplifting song considering the lyrics, the tune is pretty damn snappy too, too much so for what would be considered gothic these days.

charlotte sometimes is a damn fine song though.
