Talking Famous rip-offs

Has anyone noticed that one of the greatest songs that Lennon wrote "Imagine" was ripped off from another not-so-famous song, "Femme Fatale" ?

Femme Fatale was written in 1969 by Lou Reed for Velvet Underground's debut album, wgile lennon wrote his in 1970/71 ?

Notice just the first line of the verse is the same melody.

"Imagine there's no heaven"
with
"Here....she comes"

Another one. "Phantom of the Opera" written in 1986. Notice that the introductory keyboard line...

"dam...dam,dam,dam,dam,dam......
"dam,dam,dam,dam,dam........."

It's exactly the same as an early McCartney/Wings hit "Mary Had a little Lamb" back in 1972, the instrumental bridge after the chorus.

Interesting ?

The verve used a rolling stones violin section for "bittersweet symphony." when they recorded it they asked the wrong manager. Hence they had to give the stones 100% of the profit from that song, which ironicly their most succsessul.

the gomez single "shot shot" is a rip off radiohead's "the national anthem."
the dandy warhols ripped of the stones again: "bohemian like you - brown sugar"
And EVERYONE rips of the beta band ...

Heh! The Rolling Stones ripped everyone off back in the day. They actually admitted it and that's why they were popular!

i wouldn't call bittersweet symphony a ripoff though... yes it does use the stones sample... but they did try to get it legally cleared... it's not a ripoff so much as a corporate screwup on a major scale... had richard ashcroft tried to claim the music just magically appeared in his head then i'd call it a ripoff...
