Thumbs up Emo forum

I think that there should be sub forums to the punk one. Mostly because everyone has a different idea of what "punk" is supposed to mean. Then you get all these debates, which are the same thing over and over again...
It seems like today, all these teenagers who think they are punk are listening to a cross between pop-punk and emo. Which does not make someone a "punk"!
I HATE LABELS! Why do people feel the need to label themselves?!
I listen to pop punk and emo, I dress like a prep, I dyed the purple hair back to blonde years ago...So if I felt the need to label myself it would be a somewhat normal person who listens to good music! (ok, bring on the debates about how emo sucks! )
Does anyone else find this little smiley faces taking a bath as sexy as I do?

yeah ur right. everyone has a different idea of what punk is supposed 2 mean. It's very hard to describe music to people and to put it in a category is a difficult thing to do.

from wat i know punk is ---a type of rock-'n'-roll, reaching its peak in the late 1970s and characterized by loud, insistent music and abusive or violent protest lyrics, and whose performers and followers are distinguished by extremes of dress and socially defiant behavior.
( it might not be the real definition of punk, just my shallow point of view)
but watever the definition of punk is, i agree with ur point that the real punk needs no label itself. Ever if u have one of those outstanding spiky hairdos which makes u look punk, it doesn't ensure that ur a real punkman.

i believe in punk as an idea and therefore the continued style seems hypocritical to me... my favorite comment about punk was made by this dude stopholes on an old music forum...

"if it looks punk... sounds punk... or says it's punk... THEN IT'S NOT PUNK"

There aren't that many threads about punk anyway so why should emo get it's own section?

I guess if you looked around this place you would have realised that.

i should have figured that! i haven't really had a chance to look around this site and did not even notice that there were only a few things posted on the punk forum. My bad!
I see you are from Australia...whats the scene like out there? The only bands I have ever listened to from there are the living end and frenzal rhomb. Do any of the bands from the US ever tour there? Probably a stupid question, but I really don't know.

Yeah...a lot of US bands tour here and actually quite a lot of Australian bands tour there.

The music scene here is really good at the moment...especially in Melbourne so there are a lot of quality gigs to see. You should check out "Bodyjar". They're from Melbourne...one of my favourite bands.

Qwerty.

P.S. Sorry If I sounded rude before.

perhaps, this is only because my horizon is not yet board enough.
it seems 2 me that the aussie bands get popular less easily than any bands out there from places like canada, usa or even uk. .....And of course there are also some really cool australian bands which can get very famous, but the number is comparatively less....
why is that?
is it because of the geographical problem?

I downloaded 'not the same' by bodyjar...And then I realized I heard it somewhere before but I cannot figure out where and it is pissing me off!!! But its an awesome song, I hope I can find the cd somewhere! (the music stores here really suck and its impossible to find anything you are looking for....I end up buying most cds online) AGHH WHERE DID I HEAR THIS?!?! Maybe I have it on a comp cd somewhere!
So what other bands do you listen to?

I think so. Not many other countries get to hear Australian bands and Australia is such a large, unpopulated place that it's kind of hard to spread the word around. The bands that tour overseas are normally pretty popular here but don't seem to get the same recognition when they tour because nobody has heard of them.

Other countries seem to only pick up on our music when they're already established here. The Vines are the only band I can think of that got world recognition at the start of their carreer.
