I want to be a rock star so I can screw sorority girls as well. Oh wait, I can do that already! That aside, the guy has talent and he can play a mean acoustic.

OK, I have Room for Squares and Heavier Things in my CD collection, so I can talk a little more about this...
I waited a while to spend money on this guy's music because I wanted to see if he would be able to sustain the quality of his work beyond a stunning debut. With Heavier Things, he definitely did that, and at this point I'm totally impressed.
These are two solid albums, folks. He's got real songwriting chops (and that's something we haven't been seeing a lot of in pop music over the past 10 years or so), and he's a fine guitarist, not a bad singer either. He's actually got the kind of voice I'd like Dave Matthews to have (I know Mayer gets compared to Matthews a lot, and that's understandible).
So yeah, I really like this dude's work. It's good stuff.

So? Who cares how big you write word "hate"? It's not going to change what I think...

I find him annoying, don't much like his work, seems like too much pop fluff to me, and I can't stand his voice.

It's fascinating to me that a lot of younger folks on this site (remember, I'm age 47) are into the music of the 60s and 70s, but when an artist comes along whose music and lyrics have similar artistic values (such as Mayer, at least to my ears), a lot of those same people have not one good thing to say about that person's music. I can't for the life of me figure that out...
