How did I miss this thread? My CD and vinyl collection is fairly large (around 1500 LPs and over 1000 CDs), but there's a handful that easily come to mind as favorites. I'm not counting classical music or anything outside of the rock era for this list (my all time favorite album, Bernstein's 1963 recording of Mahler's 2nd Symphony, would be at the very top of this list in that case). This should be fairly easy for me to come up with, so here goes...

1. "The Beatles" (a.k.a. "The White Album")
2. "Pet Sounds" by the Beach Boys
3. "Are You Experienced" by the Jimi Hendrix Experience
4. "Revolver" by the Beatles
5. "Rubber Soul" by the Beatles
6. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" by the Beatles
7. "Something/Anything?" by Todd Rundgren
8. "Faith Hope Love" by King's X
9. "The Joshua Tree" by U2
10. "Songs In The Key Of Life" by Stevie Wonder

cview,

Yeah, I tend to like American artists more than European. Just a different feel I guess. Most are from the 90's and 00's, but there are a couple from the 80's. I don't really care for the sound of older music. I like some stuff, but I couldn't think of a whole album I liked from the 60's or 70's.

It's hard to pick full albums that are great. Some of my favorite songs come from albums with nothing else I like. The albums I picked have more good than bad songs, so that's what I went with.

hey rev,

didn't know you have almost the same taste as mine in pop/rock music.
3 of yours are in my list and another 3 is in my "essential" collection, cept for jimi, stevie and todd. (BTW, you listed only 9!).

but, why you missed out "Abbey Road" ?? and nothing from the 80s-00s ?

yeah, i don't really too.
but i just find that i naturally like Brits, dunno why.
my fav American artists are Blondie and Beach Boys. when i first got hooked to P Floyd, I thought they were American, since The Wall was a huge hit there, then years later when I've collected all their stuff, I found that they are Brits. The Beach Boys may be Americans, but they had bigger hits in UK, especially during their Pet Sounds era (which I love best).

I listed only 9? Oh I see, I left out the number 5. Let me think a minute...

This will satisfy your request for something from the 80s-00s (but you forget--"Joshua Tree" is from 1987)...

"Faith Hope Love" by King's X

We'll let that one in between "Something/Anything?" and "Joshua Tree", OK?

Oh yeah, "Abbey Road" is really great...but it'll have to be #11...

Well, maybe that's because where I live there aren't that much bands that are good, at least not in music history. Maybe that's why I don' really prefer any country.

It makes sence though.

anyway top ten albums:
Pink Floyd "the wall"
The Doors "the soft parade"
The Beatles " the white album"
Chet Baker "My Funny Valentine"
Miles Davis "Bitches Brew"
Radiohead "the bends"
Elvis (any album from the 50s 60's)
Tom Waits "Closing Time"
Nick Cave and the bad seeds "no more shall we part"
Hooverphing " Magnificent three"
