a good partable mp3 player

Hello,
I am abput to buy a new partable audio player. I am really confused about various models available. also I can't choose between CD players and HDD players.

What is in my mind about HDD players are: Apple iPod & Nomad jukebox Zen. let me ask does the new iPod work with windows????

and If I wana get a CD player It shoud certainly be able to burn itself. what u recommend in this case?

Thanks very very much

The main difference between HDD players and MP3CD players is that you have to load all your music from a computer onto a HDD player while with MP3CD players you have to burn a CD of MP3's. The advantages of a HDD player is that you can store more songs on it and you can't make it skip. The advantages of an MP3CD player is that it's cheaper and you can also play ordinary CD's on it too.

I'm certain the iPod works with windows now.

If money isn't a problem with you I'd go for a HDD player but then again, MP3CD players are still really good, especially if you have your own CD burner. I bought an MP3CD player last year and it's really good (iRiver SlimX - www.iriver.com). The iRiver is a bit unknown but it's probably the best brand you can buy...better than sony etc so if you want value for money, buy one of those but if you have the money, get a HDD player.

Qwerty.

By the way, I got an iMP-350 but the iMP-400 is meant to be better. Mine has radio, MP3 and cd playback and the batteries last for ages. (it comes with recharchables).

I found out that the iPod does work with windows so that might be something you might want to look at as well.

I got that iPod works with Windows as you say, but it is written the new iPod requires waiting for June to have a new software? what is that software? does not any current software support it? by the way does it have backward compatiblity with USB 1.1? thanks again

USB 2 still works with 1.1 so you don't need to worry about that. It's just that USB 2 is a heap faster. As for having new software, you can just download it for free anyway so you can update your player from the internet...it doesn't matter what software comes with it...it only matters what hardware you have.

Sorry...answering your question, it has software already but it sounds like it's going to be updated in June. All this means is that when the new software comes out, you can download it from the site onto your ipod. No biggie there.

I have a creative jukebox. It's pretty chunky, but hold 6GB of tunes. ATM I have about 1,000 songs plus the free stuff that came with it (classical and opera). The player itself is robust and the batteries last about a day (but are rechargable).
