ad claims it can teach perfect pitch

Hey guys, I don't know if you've seen it or not in magazines or on the web; but I saw this ad for achieving perfect pitch, it's at www.eartraining.com/
I'm wondering what anyone thinks of it, I'm thinkin of buyin it but I need some opinions on it. Has anyone here ever bought it?

Don't buy it. Perfect pitch is overrated. It's something anyone can develop. Most people who have been learning a musical instrument develop something called relative pitch. For example, I can often identify the pitch of E because I've been using that note to tune my guitar for years now. But thats as far as it goes for me. I don't have a chance of recognising any other notes unless I hear an E first. I know for sure that you don't need to spend anything at all to develop perfect pitch. Just work on it yourself with what ever instrument you have. I'm not exactly sure how you would do this but I have been told that it's no great feat. My music teacher at school is the one who told me this. His son who is about 7 has perfect pitch, that's why it came up. He told us that if we really wanted perfect pitch, we could develop it in a few months.

So my advise to you is, don't buy the product. Try a search on the net for info on how it develops and you'll probably find it. If you do, post the site in the Resource forum . And if I remeber, I'll ask my teacher how its meant to be done and I'll post it here.

that ad has been in EVERY music magazine i have ever bought... and i agree with papa... develop it yourself... if you are seriously considering spending money to train your ears take classical piano lessons... once you reach a certain level testing becomes a matter of your teacher playing a note (while you can't see the piano) and you correctly identifying the pitch... while it would probably cost more you'd probably be far better off in the long run...
