The American Red Cross And The Haiti Disaster Foundation To Host Fundraiser On Feb. 5

Website: http://www.HaitiDisasterFoundation.org
New York, February 1, 2010 - The Disaster Relief Foundation, in concert with the American Red Cross, announced today that it is throwing an event this Friday, February 5th, 2010 to raise funds quickly to help disaster relief in Haiti. The event will be held at popular nightclub Amnesia, 609 W. 29th st.

The event will be organized and hosted by music producers and founders of the Disaster Relief Foundations, Mike Jean and Carlo Pierre. Both Jean and Pierre are from Haiti and still have relatives and friends in the country.

"Haiti is a place close to our hearts and after seeing the devastation this earthquake caused, we knew we had to help," said Jean. Jean is from Carrefour, Haiti, just outside of Port-Au-Prince, and has been involved in fundraising for his home country ever since he arrived in the US in 1999. But this is to date the largest event that he has planned to benefit Haiti.

"We felt that a big event would be the best way to raise public awareness about the crisis and to support the Haitian people," added Pierre.

The event will feature a star-studded lineup, hosted by Valerio St. Louis, a popular newscaster from Haiti's news desk and Ally Hilfiger, daughter of fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, who will attend the event as well. There will be musical performances by Jennifer Logue, Sean Murphy, Michael Fredo, Karen Anderson, Ashte, Andy Hilfiger's Band, and other up-and-coming young artists.

Also in attendance will be United Nations Chief of Special Services for Haiti Gordon Tapper, the Honorable General Counsel of Haiti Felix Augustin, and mayor of Spring Valley Noramie Festa Jasmin.

There may also be a surprise guest appearance by a certain Haitian multi-platinum recording artist.

Haiti Disaster Foundation

The Haiti Disaster Foundation is a non-for-profit organization which was established in January, 2010 in order to bring the private sector, corporations, United Nations agencies, NGOs and local and international communities into a united front in order to most effectively bring badly-needed food, medicine, and shelter to the people of Haiti, and to make a long term difference in the victims' lives.

My NGO (that works to conserve mountains, their biotic and abiotic components) collected and donated money to Doctors Without Borders.

I think the work that the Red Cross does is in essence great, but I don't support religious groups. I'm not interested in 10% of my donation going to Christians and their fairy tales when the reality of something like Haiti needs that 10%.
