Why is jazz not popular??
I was wondering, why people don't listen to jazz...why is it not popular. Isn't it good music? You can even dance on most of the songs, when it is swingy.
Can anyone answer to this?

Probably because it doesn't get played on commercial radio stations so nobody has really heard it. A shame that, but that's the way it goes.

jazz is still pretty popular... it just takes a little more effort to find people that listen to it... like qwerty said... it's not played on commercial radio and therefore it's not that popular in the mainstream... odds are you won't be able to walk into a club and find anyone who listens to any jazz... then again people that like jazz don't usually like commercial pop(poop) music...

Jazz is popular among individuals, just like classical and classic rock and disco are, it's just not Pop or Rap, so once again, you don't hear it in the media. The media insists on maintaining the status quo of sex, drugs, racism, and murder in its music, because it's what makes money. Jazz just doesn't curse enough to make commercialism.

i think jazz is still very popular. indirectly mainly. the rise of acid jazz, "jam" music, sampled by DJ's...possibly not many people like music unless they can sing to it. at least thats what i think.

Jazz isn't popular because people would rather see big tits and firm butts these days rather than see talent! (well, back in those days, I'm sure they liked big tits and firm butts too! but that would have been in bed rather than in music!)
Jazz is misunderstood, it's the truth. Jazz elevated to a stage were it was just so demanding on the players that it was too much or the ordinary musician and public. Then jazz lost its shine, or people stopped looking at it and new styles emerged.
That's what I've gathered and think...

It isn't popular because most modern jazz isn't danceable and/or doesn't have lyrics. People want to dance and have lyrics to sing along with, it's become the standard for popular music in this day and age. While there are certainly examples of modern jazz that's danceable and lyrical, most people don't know it because they've written off jazz.
