who do figure were deep purple and iron maiden's biggest influences?

The reason I ask is I figure DP had a big influence on Maiden and I wonder if anyone wants to comment on this evolution of metal.

With Deep Purple it really depends on which version of the group.

Yardbirds
Cream
Zeppelin
Beatles
Bach
Rimsky-Korsakov
Vanilla Fudge

The Number of the Beast with Captain Bruce Dickinson. How about the relationship, if any, between Maiden and AC/DC?

Thanks for the good answers btw

Outside of having a few similiar influences. Not much of a relationship.

You can also add in Judas Priest, Jethro Tull, Rainbow, T. Rex, Budgie, and of course Hendrix for Maiden.

Paul Di'Anno brought elements of Punk to their early recordings/performancecs.

You're welcome.

By the way, Budgie is one of the most influential bands next to no one would now remember without Metallica covering two of their songs.

Burke Shelley makes Geddy Lee sound like a tenor....their music makes them one of the first Heavy Metal bands.

Try checking a picture of both Shelly and Lee from the 70's. You would think they were at least related in some way....and they both played bass in a power trio.

Yep. Metallica covered Breadfan and Crash Course in Brain Surgery. Aside from those Budgie songs, I also really enjoyed Napoleon Bona - Parts 1 & 2.

As for Metallica, one of their biggest influences had to be Diamond Head. Same for Megadeth too, obviously. The first albums of both bands really reflected that.
