What will save rock n'roll

According to Steven Van Zandt, best known as a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, it all lies in getting back to the basics of rock n' roll.

I didn't realize it was already time for your once a half-year to year posts?

The last decade Rock wasn't considered dead at some point was the 60's.

Music is supposed to suck because bands/musicians don't play cover songs? Coming from someone who wouldn't be anywhere without Springsteen that really is funny.

Somewhere along the way he got it into his head that he is actually some great musician. He's only marginally better as a musician than those he is taking shots at.

Take Springsteen out of the equation (as he has done several times over the years) and everyone of them is a nobody or disappears off the face of the planet....especially Clarence Clemons and him.

Articles like this help me realize what a sham rock music is.

little steven's underground garage always annoyed me, it was better than the default classic rock that would play the rest of the time but i found his show very one dimensional, old or new, everything sounded like iggy and the stooges.

his 'rant' only solidifies the fact that he's a dinosaur clinging to the past.

I don't really see what he's talking about in that article. Solving a lack of creativity with more covers? And does he consider Springsteen's later albums as good, original rock 'n roll?

That's fucking ridiculous. How the hell does performing cover songs encourage creativity? On top of that, he's looking in the wrong place if he's trying to find creative music in pop records.

Rock music doesn't need saving. Maybe the majority of what you hear on the radio could use some help, but performing classic rock covers isn't going to help that. Matter of fact, nothing's going to help that because that's just the way pop music works. Obviously there have been plenty of creative musicians to perform music within that genre, but for the most part pop music exists as an antithesis to creativity in music. It's to recycle the same verse chorus verse bullshit so people can listen to music without it making them think too hard.

There's myriads of great rock music being made, and there's also lots of shitty rock music being made as well. I don't think there has been a time, in recent history at least, that this wasn't the case for any type of music. The idea that the only the era of classic rock produced the best rock music is ludicrous, there's always been good music and there's always been the other kind. Trying to make music that's already been made isn't going to do anything but create more mediocrity.
