need tips for tuning drums.

i'm not exactly new to drums. but i've never had to tune a kit..until very recently. since i bought my drums sometime last year or the year before., i've only now needed to take them out of the hidden hole in which they slept (obviously to preserve all that rich wood action that would not get eaten by the massive termites we have....really...). either way..my kit is a pearl rythm traveler. not that it makes a difference in the tuning or anything...i just can't get really good pitches. i've looked for quite a while for good technics but i still can't seem to get the tones all the exact same to produce the straight wave action. ...even using the bloody star point tune technic thingy...
