Actually, Joy Division were fans of The Doors and were obviously influenced by them.

Having said that....the first two studio recordings is there best material.

This is true, the Doors just aren't the first band to come to mind for me when I listen to Joy Division.

And JFH, you're right Substance does have lots of good material some of my favorite songs by them are on it. I just don't see it as a good introduction to the band.

just like that goddamned 'steal my fucking sunshine' piece of fucking dog shit from 10 years ago by len. the trews are another one hit wonder of canadian embarrassment that got shoved down everyone's collective throats for the bulk of 2004 with their shit single 'i'm not ready to GOOOoooooo!'. they came across like an aborted buttfuck of the barenaked ladies and sloan.

fuck their fucking shit.

Cheers, brother. The first thing I thought when I heard The Trews was "I wonder if Chris Murphy is making money off of these guys."

They certainly have the whole Sloan/Odds thing going on.

With that said, you do dig early Sloan, though, don't you? I can't recall if we've ever discussed it (forgive me, I just got back home from Nepal and still have much of my thoughts upon higher ground)

hehe yeah sloan is good. i don't go out of my way for their stuff but i do enjoy listening to them when my friends pull out their discs. i've always preferred their live footage over their videos too. chris murphy is a freaking hoot and a half.

caught them at a festival 10 years ago and they stood out as the most enjoyable and entertaining act of the day.

glad to see you're back too Z

Nice. I think their first few efforts, particularly Peppermint, are great stuff. I don't really dig much of their later stuff.

If you like rock from the 80's, there's a new band coming out called "Chickenfoot" with Sammy Hagar as the singer, Joe Satriani as the guitar player. MIchael anthony as the bass, and the drummer from red hot chili peppers i think. The stuff they have out already sounds pretty good.

I just had a listen to a bunch of Chickenfoot's songs. They sound like pretty much everything Hagar's done since he left Van Halen, with a sound especially similar to Marching to Mars.

They are musically often dated, lyrically often ridiculous (and I'm not a guy who considers lyrics a primary issue when determining whether I like something).

Hagar comparing Chickenfoot to Led Zeppelin is really reaching. Really, really reaching. I'm thinking a comparison more to Montrose (), but with better production.

And, yes, Chad Smith was the drummer for the Chilis and drums for his own band Bombastic Meatbats.
