News and whatnots....

No real thread to post this in but David S. Ware is in serious need of a kidney. Not that I am volunteering any of you....just dropping the sad news.

JANUARY 16, 2009 - URGENT: David S. Ware's health

Dear friends,

This is an urgent notice on David S. Ware’s health. David needs to find a kidney donor.

David S. Ware was diagnosed with kidney failure in 1999 and he began dialysis that fall. He had an intensive three week hemodialysis regime toward beginning peritoneal (self-administered) dialysis, which would allow him to travel. David has been on this self-administered dialysis regime multiple times every day and night since October 1999. While certainly difficult, he has been able to travel, and perform his music undiminished, since then.

However, late this past December, David called to say that after 9 years this treatment was no longer working as it had been, and that a kidney transplant is the only viable option for his survival.

Since then a number of friends and family members have offered to give him one of their kidneys. Unfortunately, they have all been disqualified due to health reasons or not having David's blood type, O.

Some basic/initial requirements for viable donors are that they must be under 60 years of age, do not have diabetes or high blood pressure, are in general good health, and have blood type O (either O+ or O- is fine).

The hospital where a transplant would take place is the very highly regarded Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ
http://www.rwjuh.edu/

Willing and able potential donors should please get in touch with us as soon as possible:

Steven Joerg / David S. Ware management
aum@aumfidelity.com
telephone: 718 854 2387

We will then get them directly in touch with the Kidney Transplant Center at RWJU Hospital to begin the screening process for donor viability.

Thank you on behalf of David S. Ware;
please feel free to forward this notice.

Steven Joerg

I am bringing this over from the Beatles' remasters thread.

Say goodbye to all the Satchmo, Duke, Count Basie, Billie Holiday to name a few.

As in, for those who were waiting to pick up new remasterings of Decca recording from that time period....everything from that time period which is still available is going to be the best sounding version you will ever hear again. No matter the technological advances....there will be no upgrading in the quality of the sound.

Mosaic was planning on releasing a Ahmad Jamal box set later this year. It was to be made up of the below and unreleased material....

Argo LP-610 Count 'Em 88
Argo LP-628 But Not for Me
Argo LP-636 Ahmad Jamal Trio – Volume IV
Argo LP-2638 Portfolio of Ahmad Jamal
Argo LP-646 Jamal at the Penthouse
Argo LP-662 Happy Moods
Argo LP-667 At the Pershing
Argo LP-673 Listen to the Ahmad Jamal Quintet
Argo LP-685 Ahmad Jamal's Alhambra
Argo LP-691 All of You
Argo LP-703 Ahmad Jamal at the Blackhawk

It is now delayed and the economy isn't the cause. The cause is since the Universal fire (the one which DA BASTARDS at Universal claimed there wasn't anything of importance lost)....they haven't been able to find any of the tapes.

As in, it just might be delayed forever.

Wait NO WAY? Duke on a quarter? I'll probably save every one of those quarters I come across, that's so great.

I am pretty sure it's the first time the sole image of an African-American has been used on a non-commemorative coin.

From and it begins dept....

As in, the producer's notes for the upcoming The Complete Louis Armstrong Decca Sessions (1935-46) #243 by Mosaic Records.

"Producer’s Note: This set brings together all the Decca studio sessions by Louis Armstrong before joining RCA Victor in 1946. The disc sources for this package came from the original Decca metal parts. In some cases, either because the metal was damaged or because it was missing from the vault, a 78rpm pressing was used.

For sessions (QQ), (RR) and (SS) we were unable to obtain the original sources because of a devastating fire that claimed the life of metal parts, lacquer discs and various configurations of tapes. This is why we have had to utilize second generation LPs and CDRs as transfer sources for this set. "

Thankfully, this only effects 8 of the 169 tracks that will be included in this set.

It's my understanding that there are only around 1900 box sets remaining of the 5000 limited edition release of Mosiac's DA PRES/DA COUNT set.

That might sound like a lot but this set was just released back in March 2008.

If there is one DA PRES related recordings to only have (WTF?)....

This is it!
