You mean outside of the 10,000 times Guitar Master Grasshoppa panbient has mentioned them, and/or a certain character has dropped knowledge on them or included them on a Best of list?

This is Grasshoppa Geryon you're asking, after all.

Have you heard anything by The Groundhogs? Blues Obituary, Thank Christ for the Bomb, or Who Will Save the World are good places to start.

And have you had the chance to hear some Big Maybelle yet?

I found a few songs by her that I was able to download,

"I Won't Cry Anymore"
"It's the Same Old Story"
"What are You Doing to Me"
and "I Will Never Turn My Back on You"

I like what I've heard so far, I'll keep looking.

As for the Groundhogs nope I haven't heard them, I'll look for them next.

By now I've listened to most of the music I downloaded during my last hunt for massive amounts of music that is new to me. I've obtained a few albums in the interim as well, but I am beginning another enormous search for new albums, to take place over the next few weeks. So I'm bumping this in case anyone has any ideas.

P.S: Zola, Satch or anyone else - I still have to rebuild my blues collection so if you want help me with it I'd appreciate any name/album dropping.

Be glad to help. One thing you may want to do is look through the "Blues: What's in your player?" thread for stuff you've never heard.

For now, I'll recommend some things that are easy to get but you've perhaps not heard, though you most certainly know of the artists.

Aretha Franklin - Aretha Sings the Blues
Nina Simone - Sings the Blues
The Super Super Blues Band - The Super Super Blues Band (You may not recognise this band name, but you'll recognise the members)
Willie Dixon - I am the Blues (Willie singing all the songs he wrote for other people)

And since this is what I'm listening to at the moment, I'll recommend West Side Soul, Magic Sam.

Satch posted a long list of essential Blues.

Thanks, I'm familiar with most of the artists you mentioned but never really gave too much attention to any of them yet, with the exception of Nina Simone who I've been very fond of since I first heard her version of "I Got it Bad and That Ain't Good". Either way I have to download my Nina Simone stuff again which I totally forgot about . As for the others I'll add them to the list and I'll be looking for their music soon.

Elliot Smith is cool but I like Elliott Smith more.

Listen to Big Star and Pavement.
