Question Need technical help/software advice

Hm. I hope this is the proper forum for my request. Feels kinda funny, I don't remember having been on this section before, let alone having posted.

Anyway, recently I've purchased a CD called Steve Stevens Guitar Sample Collection.

As some will know, Steve Stevens is my favorite guitarist and I like him especially because of all the funny sounds he makes during his performances.
So I figured I'd just buy his guitar sound sample collection so I could listen to it all day long.
What I didn't know though is that it's not a regular audio CD. It seems to be some sort of CD-Rom. However I can't open it with any media player I have.

So my question is, how can I play this thing? What kind of software do I need?

Any help appreciated, thanx in advance!

T/R

all the reviews I've looked at states that it's an audio cd.

instead of trying to open it with a program, right click (if PC) on the D: drive which it should be labeled (or however your cd drive is labeled) and explore the disc. try to open the individual files that way.

It might be formated for a specific sampler and not just plain CD audio. I've seen a few formated specifically for AKAI samplers, for instance, so you would either have to have an AKAI sampler or a sampler that can read AKAI format.

There is a likelihood, however, that you might be able to read the disc on your computer and maybe find the raw PCM sample files and then copy them and reburn them as a regular audio CD; chances are they're hidden somewhere amid a bunch of other directories specific to sampler applications or hardware. Look around.

Not sure why anyone would want to listen to chromatically sampled single guitar chords, notes and effects all day...but whatever.

Yea, it says it's an AKAI CD. AKAI-sampler, what exactly is that?

I can't open the CD. I get a message saying "CD corrupt or format not compatible with Windows".

The effects kick ass. Steve used to have some of them online on his homepage.

So, without buying one of those $ 600.00+ AKAI samplers, I won't be able to play my CD?

Actually if you buy Kontakt you still will not be able to listen to your CD. If you convert it into wav files you will have hundreds of files with duration of each of about 5-10sec maximum or so. You'd better sell this cd. It is for musicians (it is more musical instrument than material for listening) not for listeners. Sorry :-/

What the hell is "Kontakt"? And I won't sell this CD. There must be a way to listen to it and convert it to mp3 format. I just need to find someone with a sampler.

Kontakt is virtual sampler - one of best - see NAtive Instruments Kontakt in google
And do you realise that there are only lists of notes? How will you listen to them?
There will be something like this
folder named tremolo and in it - only notes, several octaves
than folder slide - the same
Anyway it is up to you to sell it or not, but listen to it hm I am very pessimistic about it. Imagine i press A note on piano for 3 seconds and recorded it as mp3, than note B also for 3 seconds, than C and etc. Will you listen to those mp3s (7 mp3s)?
Ok i shall upload later some samples in mp3. As i remember i have those samples (not sure) And you will see.

These samples aren't just simple notes, they're crazy guitar noises by Steve Stevens!
